We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Rail Strategic Sourcing Manager located in Dallas, TX.

    We are looking for a Rail Contracts Manager who will be responsible for the development, negotiation and management of rail related agreements in compliance with corporate policy and objectives.  This is an individual contributor role.

    Essential Job Duties:

    • ·         Manages and negotiates rail agreements, including freight contracts, railcar lease/purchase agreements, railcar storage agreements and related accessorial service agreements.
    • ·         Responsible for major rail freight bids, including the development of strategic objectives, bidding, analyzing, negotiating, and obtaining internal approvals and agreement on contract terms and conditions.
    • ·         Develops negotiating strategies considering the cost of alternate logistics, carrier profitability estimates (RVCR), and market competitive impacts.
    • ·         Provides rail logistics support to Sales, Marketing, Demand Chain Planning, Raw Material Purchasing, and customers.
    • ·         Familiar with STB policies and able to support rail advocacy initiatives (paper barriers, reciprocal switching, fuel surcharge structures, rate and service challenges).
    • ·         Maintains contacts and good working relationships with carriers, vendors and internal stakeholders. Develop and lead business review meeting with senior rail executives to outline opportunities to reduce rail related costs and improve service.
    • ·         Works with Rail Operations to ensure that appropriate rail service is maintained and takes ownership for the resolution of systemic rail service issues that are beyond the scope of Rail Operations.
    • ·         Ensures that SAP rail transportation data is maintained accurately and that rail invoice and payment discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
    • ·         Ensures that rail related contracts are in compliance with corporate policy.
    • ·         Uses analytic tools to track performance, identify opportunities and drive for better decision making. Ensures that corporate reporting tools accurately reflect the true cost of rail services.
    • ·         Submits and resolves claims against rail carriers and vendors in the event of derailment, product containment, etc.
    • ·         Conducts special projects as directed by management.


    • ·         Bachelor's degree preferably in Transportation, Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or applicable field of study.
    • ·         Strong critical thinking and analysis skills.
    • ·         A minimum of 7 years experience in the rail transportation industry demonstrating knowledge of the rail network, rail rate structures and contracts.
    • ·         Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • ·         Proven ability to influence stakeholders inside and outside the organization.
    • ·         Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate or advanced level Excel.

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • ·         Hazardous Product transportation experience.
    • ·         Experienced in managing complex Rule 11 rail freight bids and agreements.
    • ·         Able to perform basic financial analyses (lease/buy, cash flow, etc.)
    • ·         Knowledge of SAP and Business Warehouse programs.
