    Senior Logistic Services Buyer - Trucking - PUR000243



    Performs and supports assignments related to the strategic purchasing of over-the-road transportation modes (e.g. truckload, less than truckload, bulk truck, intermodal, etc.) for Solvay North America. Responsible for an annual spend of over ~$50 million with approximately 40+ key logistics suppliers. Major activities include selection, negotiation, contracting and management of approved logistics suppliers. Work with the businesses supply chains to help optimize the logistics among the 30+ facilities in North America.

    Principle Accountabilities

    • Assists in the development of category strategies for all over-the-road modes (LTL, TL, bulk truck) 
    • Assists internal customers in defining their logistics scope of service
    • Seeks and shares market intelligence for the different transportation modes
    • Prepares bid events, either manual or electronic
    • Qualify, approves and selects new logistics suppliers
    • Negotiates, develops and manages logistics contracts with logistics suppliers
    • Maintains the relationship with the established suppliers
    • Collect, analyze and assure quality of the data to support purchasing activities
    • Identify value creation opportunities for internal customers
    • Create and maintain the purchasing procedures and manuals related to his/her function
    • Provide information to the Inland Logistics Manager, as required for monthly reports, market studies, etc.
    • Understand Solvay’s Quality and Safety Policy and comply with all corporate guidelines
    • Assists in the development of capabilities and performance metrics (KPIs)



    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and/or Engineering, or a related degree, required, masters preferred
    • Minimum 5 years experience in purchasing of transportation, with emphasis on over-the-road transportation (LTL, TL, bulk truck, intermodal, etc.).
    • 5 to 10 years experience in purchasing and/or transportation operations
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Strong negotiating skills
    • Proven analytical skills
    • Good written and verbal communication skills (English)
    • Commitment to teamwork and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
    • Experience in the use of procurement tools (e-sourcing, contract management, etc.)
    • Clear understanding of logistics terms and concepts
    • General computer knowledge (Excel, Word, Access, among others)
