    Position Summary: The Chemical Transportation & Supply Chain Manager (internally: Truck Mode Manager) will strategically optimize transportation and supply chain resources to meet or exceed our customer expectations.  They are responsible for negotiating rates and building transportation strategies to ensure adequate capacity and on time delivery.  Manages and monitors performance modes of transportation and works cross-functionally to determine the optimal flow of products.


    Primary Responsibilities: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Develop Distribution and Logistics Strategies – Truck related
      • Develop short-term and long-term strategies to support commercial needs for trucking – optimizing costs and reliable load tendering.  Identify, create, and implement negotiating leverage whenever possible to secure needed trucking and minimize costs.
      • Analyze sourcing options; direct from mfg. vs. non mfg. points or truck vs. intermodal to keep freight reliable and with competitive costs for customers in a value added role to support Marketing & Sales needs.
      • Manage relationship with multi modal carrier base; truckload vans, flatbeds, bulk dry and bulk liquid trucks, intermodal, outside packagers, trans-loaders and external warehouses.
        • Identify carriers, Qualify carriers, Contract carriers, and Monitor performance
      • Problem-solve truck related issues
      • Problem-solve and escalated issues at trans-loaders, packagers, warehouses
      • Support, as needed, all transportation (rail, truck, railcar fleet) related projects associated with motor carriage and private railcar fleet (Rail Asset & Operations Manager).
    • Negotiate rates; Truck, Trans-Load, Warehouse, Packaging
      • Negotiate all truck freight expenses for the benefit of customers Genesis Alkali arranged
      • Negotiate warehouse and packaging services
      • Negotiate, analyze, and develop logistical and supply chain options where freight is or could be an added value service for customers.
      • Communicate, negotiate, and work closely with Green River and procurement for inbound raw materials via truck.
      • Develop sound business relationships with all core motor carriers and external logistic vendors supporting our business needs.
      • Timely quotes of distribution expenses for potential customers.
      • Forecast, budget, and benchmark freight expenses.
    • Manage Freight Costs & Systems
      • Update, and manage truck rates in RATEMAKER via CASS. (Automated rate system tied to SAP).
      • Calculate and communicate the monthly truck fuel surcharge allowance to Sales & Marketing, RATEMAKER, and CASS.
      • Solve System Problems relative to freight and logistics in INTELLITRANS, RATEMAKER and SAP.
      • Support ASR’s and OFM’s for invoicing, rating, and freight related issues.
    • Schedule routine audits of trans-load sites, packagers and warehouses

    Skills and Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university; Supply Chain Management major preferred AND
    • 8+ years of supply chain or distribution experience with a heavy emphasis on truck logistics OR equivalent mix of education and experience
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills
    • Strong computer savvy
      • Intermediate MS Office required
      • SAP or similar ERP system preferred
      • Intellitrans, Ratemaker, or other transportation system experience preferred
    • Experience within the chemical industry is preferred
