    Director of Transportation

    Located in either New Jersey or Southern California

    Total Compensation in the $160-220k range (base + bonus)

     

    The Director of Transportation is in a critically important role, overseeing all domestic and international transportation for the organization.  This person will supporting the timely delivery of customer packages in a rapidly evolving multi-carrier, complex fulfillment network. In this leadership role you will work cross-functionally influencing key areas of the business and actively engaging with other transportation leaders, fulfillment operations, and technology and business leaders.

     

    • This person will lead carrier negotiation, selection, and own implementation and customer delivery commitment and the associated budgets for these activities. This individuals will bring new insights to carrier products and ways to improve service that lowers costs across the network
    • Review the current metrics and identify ways to better understand our business and the key drivers to improve customer service as well as inform leadership of our performance to plan, both from a service and cost perspective
    • Drive complex operations and projects - exceeding expectations and delivering business results
    • Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) LEAN initiatives that drive improvement throughout Supply Chain Operations through data, feedback and iteration
    • Builds trusted partnerships, drive decisions, and align disparate groups to achieve goals
    • Work on high profile projects with executive visibility and engagement
    • Make principled decisions under pressure and find the “right” path, particularly when there are different/competing points of view
    • Utilize data storytelling to drive insights, define strategy and inform execution across written and verbal mediums internally and externally
    • Define and run effective, efficient and repeatable business processes
    • Navigate multiple sources of data and multiple stakeholders to prioritize initiatives

    POSITION INFORMATION

    SUMMARY   

    The main purpose of this position is to be the primary contact between outside vendors handling NYK cargo and our RoRo organization. Monitor, verify, capture, and report on cargo received and staged for loading. Produce ground and load lists for planning and loading purposes. Report on cargo loaded to booked vessels and perform vessel close out per assigned port.

     

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Monitor cargo being received by designated terminals on a daily basis through their reporting systems

    ·         Verify cargo description and dimensions prior to internal reporting. Cross check DR's with PRESTO bookings and terminal systems. Work with terminals and in house Operations/Terminal Managers

    ·         File and store DR's received from the terminals

    ·         Update cargo info in PRESTO through actualization process

    ·         Disseminate ground lists twice a week for cargo in terminals

    ·         Identify cargo that is stuffed on mafis and ensure stuffing sheets in hand. Details shared in respective lists

    ·         Assist with updating mafi inventory in RISING based on mafi in/outbound

    ·         Communicate with OEM processors in order to capture cargo for load back and include on Load Guides

    ·         Capture transshipment cargo connections and ensure same reflected on Ground and Load Guides

    ·         Send out Load Guide for vessel load back as per the SOP

    ·         Perform vessel close out in PRESTO once vessel has completed loading

    ·         Send out OEM load confirmation once vessel sails

    ·         Share internally any information received from terminals such as but not limited to hours, schedules, space

    ·         Serve as back-up for local Operations Team when needed

    ·         Demonstrate “Integrity” by accurate and timely information as per standard procedures

    ·         Demonstrate “Intensity” by working diligently and effectively with fellow team members

    ·         Demonstrate “Innovation" by seeking out cargo receiving process improvements and opportunities to reduce costs and risk for NYK

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    1.    SPECIAL SKILLS  (Computer training, quality training, special programs)

    ·         Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications, with strong emphasis in Excel

    ·         Familiarity with NYK RORO software and programs (PRESTO and AS400 Legacy)

    ·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    ·         Organizational skills and attention to detail are a must

    ·         Need TWIC card to access terminals on occasional basis

    ·         Ability to multi-task

    ·         Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

    2.    PREFERRED EDUCATION

    ·         Bachelor's degree preferred, or currently in enrolled and attending in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree.

    3.    WORK EXPERIENCE 

    ·         2-5 years in the shipping industry

    ADA REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. There will be a need to attend to terminals on occasion to check cargo and meet with terminal staff. In office occasional walking, stooping, filing, lifting or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, file, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The employee must frequently talk and be able to hear.
